SYNOPSIS
The world of tomorrow depends on a strategic mineral needed for batteries: cobalt, which is mainly found in the Congolese soil. This film investigates the environmental and human consequences of the battle waged by the automobile industry and tells the story of those who are fighting not to be left behind in the promise of a “better world”.

Quentin Noirfalisse, Arnaud Zajtman
Quentin Noirfalisse:
Quentin is a Belgian producer, director and investigative journalist. He directed the documentaries THE MINISTER OF GARBAGE (Dok Leipzig 2018) and THE BATTLE FOR COBALT (FIPADOC 2023). He also recently co-produced TRAVERSER (Berlinale, Visions du Réel) and BREATHLESS (Ensor 2019). Quentin is also co-founder of Médor (cultural and political magazine) for which he writes about environmental issues in sub-Saharan Africa and corporate responsibility around the world. He is a researcher for One.Gram, a VR project that aims to reveal the production chain of precious metals used in smartphones (France TV/PBS).
Arnaud Zajtman:
Freelance journalist Arnaud Zajtman produced and co-wrote the documentary “Congo Lucha”, which won the Albert-Londres Prize in 2019. He was present in Kinshasa during the assassination of Laurent-Disiré Kabila, he then followed the key moments of the trial and is the author of the documentary “Murder in Kinshasa. Who killed Laurent-Désiré Kabila? “, released in 2010. In 2021, he wrote for RFI the investigative podcast: “The assassination of Laurent-Désiré Kabila, a Congolese thriller”.
