SYNOPSIS

Archbishop Desmond Tutu inspired a whole world.
In this unique documentary, directed by former Africa correspondent Marika Griehsel, you meet some of the people closest to the world-renowned South African Peacemaker, as they remember his life, courage and extraordinary personality.
His fight for justice, peace and democracy made him one of the most influential persons during the struggle against the racist minority regime in South Africa.
When Nelson Mandela was released in 1990 after 27 years in prison, Archbishop Tutu and his wife Leah welcomed Mandela in their home, his very first night in freedom.
Desmond Tutus’ daughter Mpho Tutu van Furth, his personal medical doctor Ingrid le Roux, his righthand man and biographer John Allan open their “memory boxes” and tell us about the man and his legacy.
You will also hear from musician, Concord Nkabinde, cartoonist Jonathan “Zapiro” Shapiro and human right activist, Khanyisile Motsa. They tell us why they devoted their lives to speaking truth to power, inspired by “The Arch” and why he will influence generations to come.

Director's Statement

Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela showed the world that a negotiated settlement was possible between the most bitter foes. I had the privilege to meet both of these peacemakers many times as I worked as a correspondent for Swedish Television, Public Broadcasting between 1990 – 2005. I feel strongly motivated to pass on their words and reach a bigger audience with their message of peace and their view on the role of leaders.
