Thanks to Olive Tree Theatre, one of our exciting rolling programmes is LAST THURSDAY FILM CLUB in which, on the last Thursday of each month, we seek to screen cutting edge social impact films in the historic Alex township in Johannesburg. The screenings are tailored to accompany enriching and empowering discussions between the audience and filmmakers, journalists, human rights defenders, policy-makers and civil society among others.
This platform, a key highlight of the festival runs for the entire duration of the festival. It comprises panels, discussions and networking sessions where human rights filmmakers and multimedia journalists interface with representatives from global human rights organizations, human rights defenders and grassroots organsations with the goal to pitch their groundbreaking ideas, get special insight into how their projects could be funded and exchange ideas on potential partnerships to create effective audio-visual platforms to drive the human right agenda across the African continent.

This is a special platform that runs throughout the duration of the festival where seasoned filmmakers mentor aspiring filmmakers and human rights defendes in making effective social impact films and multimedia programmes.
At the same time, expects on security will share their exclusive experiences, advice and reports with filmmakers, photojournalists, reporters and online media players on how to deal with complex security issues around telling stories in difficult countries.
Filmmakers, human rights defenders, diplomats and other invited guests will attend the glamorous red carpet opening night party and the closing night awards ceremony and party. During the festival several other themed parties will be organized by various organisations provide an opportunity for filmmakers, journalists, online media players, human rights defenders, diplomats, policy makers to network and exchange ideas in a free environment.
